The secret of the Big Fountain in the Park of Sanssouci

Friedrich the Great had a dream: he wanted to create his own Versailles in Potsdam. A lot of money was spent on many ideas.

The secret of the telegraph station no. 4

In 1832 king Friedrich Wilhelm III. ordered to erect an optical telegraph line from the Berlin observatory to Koblenz on the river Rhine.
This line had many stations, no. 4 was located on top of the therefore so called “telegraph hill” in Potsdam.

Why did Prussian telegraph officials work only when weather was fine?
What happened when the new electricity began to triumph?
